Lithops (commonly called living stones) are small succulents native to southern Africa, perfectly adapted to arid environments by mimicking the appearance of pebbles to avoid herbivores.
Appearance: Two thick, fused leaves forming a split in the center, from which flowers emerge.
Size: Generally 1–3 cm tall and wide.
Color & pattern: Ranges from gray, green, and brown to reddish tones, often with intricate mottling or markings.
Flowers: Daisy-like, white or yellow, blooming in late summer or autumn.
Light: Requires very bright light or full sun to maintain compact growth and vibrant markings.
Soil: Very sandy, fast-draining mix (cactus/succulent substrate with added grit).
Watering: Very minimal—water only during active growth (late spring and autumn), and keep completely dry during dormancy.
Care level: For patient growers; thrives with neglect rather than overcare.
💡 Tip: Overwatering is the main cause of Lithops loss—when in doubt, don’t water.
