Coleus scutellarioides ‘Main Street River Walk’
The species Coleus scutellarioides is native to tropical Southeast Asia, especially the Malesian region. It naturally grows in warm, humid habitats with filtered light or bright, non-burning exposure.
Coleus ‘River Walk’ produces broad, soft, serrated leaves. Its lime-green, bright yellow and deeper green colours create a fresh tropical look, perfect for brightening displays of darker foliage or red and purple plants.
This variety has an upright, bushy and well-branched growth habit. It is fast-growing and vigorous; regular pinching helps maintain a fuller, more compact shape.
Coleus scutellarioides ‘River Walk’ enjoys bright indirect light, but also tolerates brighter exposure when the substrate remains lightly moist. It appreciates warmth, moderate to high humidity and, above all, good air circulation. Avoid harsh direct sun through glass and waterlogged roots.
Its vigorous growth makes it particularly suitable for medium or large open terrariums, airy paludariums and greenhouse displays.
A light, nutrient-rich and free-draining mix made from coco fibre or quality potting mix, compost, perlite and fine bark will support healthy growth. The mix should stay lightly moist but never waterlogged.
Keep the substrate slightly moist with regular watering using low-mineral water where possible. Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings and avoid standing water around the roots.
This plant appreciates humidity between 50% and 75%, with regular air circulation.
Ideal growing temperature: 18°C to 28°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C, cold drafts and very dry air.
Fast-growing. Approximate mature size: 45 to 75 cm in height and spread, depending on growing conditions and regular pinching.
Plant supplied in a grower’s pot. Size may vary depending on season and availability.
Pinch young growing tips regularly to encourage a denser, bushier plant. Remove flower spikes if you wish to focus the plant’s energy on foliage. Stem cuttings root easily and quickly.
This variety is ideal for adding vivid lime-green and yellow tones to tropical plant displays. Its fast growth, easy care and strongly contrasting foliage make it an excellent choice for bright interiors, greenhouses, airy paludariums and open terrariums.
