Description

Aechmea mulfordii is a large-growing Brazilian bromeliad valued for its broad rosette, tough foliage and highly structured habit. It develops into an architectural specimen particularly well suited to large terrariums, paludariums, tropical greenhouses and Bromeliaceae collections.

Aechmea mulfordii is native to northeastern Brazil, particularly the states of Pernambuco and Bahia. The species occurs in tropical environments in this region.

Recommended substrate

Use a very airy and well-draining mix composed, for example, of pine bark, coco chips, volcanic rock, perlite and a small proportion of organic matter.

Avoid heavy substrates that remain permanently waterlogged.

Watering

Keep a small amount of soft or low-mineral water in the central rosette and refresh it regularly.

The substrate should remain slightly moist while maintaining excellent aeration around the roots.

Humidity

Aechmea mulfordii appreciates medium to high humidity, ideally around 60% to 85%.

High humidity should always be combined with sufficient ventilation to avoid prolonged water stagnation around the foliage and roots.
