Fittonia ‘Mosaic Pink Forest Flame’
Plant supplied in a 8.5 cm diameter pot.
Fittonia species are native to the humid tropical forests of South America, particularly Peru, where they naturally grow in warm, shaded and highly humid understory environments.
The foliage consists of small oval to slightly rounded leaves with strongly marked veins. The cultivar ‘Mosaic Pink Forest Flame’ stands out for its intense pink tones, sometimes approaching raspberry red, which contrast beautifully with the green background of the leaf blade.
This Fittonia has a low, compact and slightly creeping growth habit. It gradually forms dense clumps and can spread across part of the substrate when provided with suitable warmth and humidity.
Provide bright indirect light. Sufficient light helps maintain intense pink coloration and compact growth. Avoid direct sunlight, which can quickly scorch the foliage.
Keep the substrate consistently slightly moist without allowing it to become waterlogged. Fittonia does not tolerate prolonged dryness well and may wilt rapidly when the substrate becomes too dry.
Fittonia ‘Mosaic Pink Forest Flame’ appreciates high humidity, ideally between 70 and 90%. These conditions make it especially well adapted to humid tropical terrariums.
Maintain temperatures between 18 and 26°C whenever possible. Avoid temperatures below 15°C, cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.
Use a light, organic substrate that retains regular moisture while remaining well drained. A mixture containing coco fiber, organic potting soil, perlite and plant-based organic matter is particularly suitable.
Fittonia ‘Mosaic Pink Forest Flame’ is particularly well suited to humid tropical terrariums and paludariums. Its compact size makes it ideal for foreground planting, around roots and decorative structures, or as a colorful groundcover.
Pinch or trim the growing tips regularly to maintain a dense and compact habit. Light pruning also helps control its spread and encourages branching.
In a terrarium, position your Fittonia ‘Mosaic Pink Forest Flame’ in the foreground or in a slightly shaded area with consistently high humidity. Its intense pink foliage creates an excellent contrast with mosses, ferns and green tropical plants.
Fittonia is particularly sensitive to drying out. When grown outside a terrarium, monitor substrate moisture regularly and avoid placing the plant close to heaters or sources of dry air.
