Primulina yungfuensis is a rare compact botanical Gesneriad particularly well suited to humid tropical terrariums and rocky naturalistic displays. It forms a low rosette of thick, lightly velvety green leaves and produces elegant tubular purple flowers.
Supplied in a Ø 7 cm pot, this compact species is ideal for small terrariums, nano terrariums, emerged paludarium sections and naturalistic layouts inspired by Asian limestone habitats.

Primulina yungfuensis is an accepted botanical species.
Ø 7 cm
The species is native to Guangxi in southern China, specifically the Yongfu Xian area.
It naturally grows in shaded areas on limestone hills within a humid subtropical climate.
The leaves form a basal rosette. They are elliptic to ovate, thick and slightly leathery, with a finely velvety surface.
The foliage remains low and compact, making this species particularly useful for foreground planting in terrariums.
Primulina yungfuensis is a perennial, essentially stemless species with a very compact growth habit.
It forms a neat low rosette and remains considerably smaller than many commonly cultivated tropical plants.
In nature, the species primarily grows in shaded limestone environments.
It therefore appreciates atmospheric humidity combined with excellent drainage and good root aeration.
Primulina yungfuensis can be planted in a small substrate pocket between rocks, within a crevice or at the base of a rocky background.
The roots appreciate consistent moisture but should never remain permanently waterlogged.
Use a light, mineral and highly free-draining mix containing fine volcanic rock, perlite, fine bark, coco fibre and a small amount of sphagnum moss.
A neutral to slightly calcareous substrate is particularly suitable.
Keep the growing medium lightly moist while allowing excess water to drain quickly.
Avoid both prolonged drought and standing water around the roots.
Humidity of approximately 65% to 85% is suitable.
Good airflow helps prevent problems caused by stagnant moisture on the foliage.
Ideal growing temperature: approximately 18°C to 25°C.
As a subtropical species, it prefers moderate temperatures and may be less tolerant of prolonged excessive heat.
Primulina yungfuensis prefers soft to medium filtered light.
Avoid overly intense lighting or direct sunlight that may damage the foliage.
Slow to moderate growth. The plant naturally maintains a compact habit.
Primulina yungfuensis produces attractive tubular purple flowers held above the foliage on slender flower stalks.
The blooms can appear particularly large and striking compared with the compact size of the plant.
Propagation can be carried out by division, seed or, under suitable conditions, leaf cuttings.
Remove old or damaged leaves and avoid allowing water to remain in the centre of the rosette for prolonged periods.
The best results are achieved by combining stable humidity with a highly aerated growing medium.
Use a very weakly dosed tropical plant or Gesneriad fertiliser occasionally during active growth.
Avoid excessive feeding and mineral salt accumulation.
This botanical species stands out for its very compact habit, velvety foliage and elegant purple flowers.
It is particularly useful for planting rocky areas and foreground sections where more vigorous tropical plants would quickly become too large.
Plant Primulina yungfuensis between rocks or in a small mineral substrate pocket in a humid, lightly shaded position.
Combined with mosses and small ferns, it creates a natural Asian forest-floor display while maintaining a very low profile.
