The Dried Pods & Shells Kit – Large Terrarium brings together a complete selection of natural botanical elements specially chosen to enrich large tropical, bioactive and naturalistic terrariums.
This kit is based on the small and medium terrarium set, with additional larger and more structural elements to create greater depth, relief and a wider variety of microhabitats in larger enclosures.
The combination of small pods, hollow shells and larger botanical elements makes it easy to structure a large terrarium. The variation in shapes, sizes and textures creates a more complex and much more natural-looking forest-floor environment.
The smaller pods are ideal for adding detail to the foreground, while the large Sapucaia shell, Badam nut shells and Buddha nut provide stronger visual elements and help structure the overall layout.
The lotus pods provide a distinctive honeycomb-like surface, while the shells and nuts offer deeper, rounded and irregular forms.
Together, these elements break up the uniform appearance of the substrate and create multiple visual zones, cavities, passageways and natural shelters.
The numerous natural cavities found in the pods, shells and nuts create valuable micro-shelters for terrarium microfauna.
Springtails, isopods and other detritivores can use these areas for shelter, exploration and foraging.
The different elements in this kit are of plant origin and gradually decompose in humid conditions. They therefore contribute organic matter to the substrate and support the biological cycle of a bioactive terrarium.
They are an excellent complement to leaf litter, bark, mosses and small pieces of natural wood.
Distribute the different elements across several areas of the enclosure. The larger pieces can be placed towards the back or around roots, while the mini pods are ideal for enriching the foreground and more open areas.
Each piece is unique. Shape, colour, size and texture may vary slightly from one element to another.
These natural differences are completely normal and contribute to the authentic character of the kit.
This kit provides an immediate selection of varied natural elements suitable for larger enclosures. It avoids the need to choose each shell and pod separately while maintaining a good balance between small decorative pieces and larger structural elements.
It is an excellent base for creating a rich, detailed and functional forest-floor layer in a large bioactive terrarium.
Use the large Sapucaia shell and the Buddha nut as the main decorative elements, then distribute the Badam nut shells and lotus pods around roots, plants and stones.
Add Catappa leaves, mosses and small branches to create several layers of natural material and achieve a much more realistic tropical forest-floor effect.
