Set of 4 Fittonia featuring four decorative varieties selected for their contrasting and colourful foliage: Fittonia 'Tiger', Fittonia verschaffeltii 'Bubble Green', Fittonia 'Red Flame' and Fittonia 'Pink'.
This set is ideal for quickly creating a dense and colourful tropical display in a humid terrarium, paludarium or planted composition. Fittonia are especially valued for their compact growth, strongly marked leaf veins and excellent adaptation to warm, humid environments.
Acanthaceae
Fittonia
Fittonia are native to the humid tropical forests of South America, mainly Peru and neighbouring regions. They naturally grow close to the forest floor, under dense vegetation, in warm, humid and shaded conditions.
Each variety offers a different foliage pattern, creating an immediately rich and colourful mix:
The combination of these four varieties provides strong colour diversity while maintaining a harmonious and compact overall appearance.
Fittonia develop a low, compact to slightly creeping habit. They gradually form dense clumps and are particularly suitable for covering foreground areas or planting around roots, stones and natural terrarium décor.
Fittonia prefer moderate to bright indirect light, warm stable temperatures and high atmospheric humidity. They are especially well suited to closed or semi-closed tropical terrariums.
Avoid direct sunlight, which may burn the foliage, as well as complete drying of the substrate.
This set is particularly useful for quickly planting the foreground and mid-ground areas of a tropical terrarium.
Use a light, rich and well-draining tropical substrate composed, for example, of coco fibre, organic matter, fine bark, perlite or volcanic rock.
The substrate should retain regular moisture without remaining permanently waterlogged.
Keep the substrate slightly moist with regular watering using soft or low-limescale water.
Fittonia react quickly to lack of water by wilting, but usually recover after rehydration if the drying period has not been prolonged.
Humidity levels of approximately 70% to 90% are particularly suitable for these plants.
High humidity encourages dense foliage and helps prevent leaf edges from drying out.
Ideal growing temperature: approximately 20°C to 26°C.
Avoid prolonged temperatures below 16°C and cold draughts.
Moderate to fast growth under favourable conditions. Regular pruning helps maintain compact plants and encourages branching.
This set includes four plants supplied in the formats indicated in the product specifications. Plant size, foliage density and colour intensity may vary slightly depending on the individual plant, season and shipment.
Pinch or trim overly long stems to maintain a dense and compact habit. Remove old or damaged leaves using clean tools.
Apply a balanced fertiliser for tropical plants at a low concentration approximately once a month during the growing period.
In bioactive terrariums, feeding should remain very light to avoid mineral salt accumulation in the substrate.
Fittonia are easily propagated from stem cuttings. A section containing several nodes can be placed directly into moist substrate or sphagnum moss.
Fittonia are not generally considered highly toxic plants. Nevertheless, ingestion should be avoided and compatibility should always be checked with the animal species housed in the terrarium.
This set combines four different foliage styles in a single composition and provides an immediate tropical effect with strong colour contrast. Fittonia are particularly well suited to humid terrariums thanks to their compact size, decorative foliage and dense growth.
Distribute the four Fittonia throughout the foreground rather than planting them as a single uniform group. This creates more natural colour accents and gives the terrarium greater depth.
Combine them with mosses, compact ferns, Selaginella or small creeping plants to create a lush tropical display.
