Complementary foliage textures

Microsorum musifolium ‘Crocodyllus’ features long, textured green fronds with a distinctive surface reminiscent of crocodile skin. It is particularly well suited to mid-ground or background planting in tropical displays.

Nephrolepis exaltata ‘Duffy’ has a finer, lighter and more compact growth habit. Its delicate foliage quickly creates a dense forest-floor effect and works especially well around roots, stones and other natural decorative elements.

Polystichum rigens completes the selection with firmer, more structured and graphic fronds. Its upright appearance adds contrast and reinforces the naturalistic look of the terrarium.

Use in terrariums

Watering

Keep the substrate slightly moist to fresh, without allowing it to remain permanently waterlogged. Good drainage is essential to protect the root system and reduce the risk of excess moisture around the roots.

Recommended substrate

Use a light, well-draining substrate rich in organic matter. A tropical terrarium mix containing plant fibres, fine bark, organic material and draining components is particularly suitable.

Temperature

A temperature range of approximately 18 to 26°C is suitable for most tropical setups. Avoid cold draughts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

Recommended placement

For a natural-looking composition, place Microsorum ‘Crocodyllus’ in the mid-ground or background, use Nephrolepis ‘Duffy’ in lower areas or around roots and rocks, and position Polystichum rigens where a more structured vertical accent is desired.
