Description

Origin

Cyrtomium falcatum is native to East Asia, particularly Japan, China and Korea. It naturally grows in shaded, humid woodland areas, often on soils rich in organic matter and with good drainage.

Foliage

The foliage of Cyrtomium falcatum consists of long pinnate fronds bearing thick, glossy and slightly curved leaflets with a characteristic sickle-like shape. Their leathery texture and deep green colour give the plant a durable and highly structured appearance.

The fronds develop in dense clumps from the base and remain decorative for long periods when growing conditions are stable.

Use a rich, light and well-draining substrate composed, for example, of coco fibre, fine bark, organic matter, perlite or volcanic rock and a small proportion of sphagnum moss.

Watering

Keep the substrate slightly moist with regular watering using soft or low-limescale water. Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings without letting the root ball dry out completely.

Avoid standing water around the roots.

Humidity

Cyrtomium falcatum appreciates humidity levels of approximately 60% to 80%. It can nevertheless tolerate slightly drier air than some more delicate tropical ferns.
