Amydrium medium 'Silver'
Native to the humid tropical forests of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, Amydrium medium naturally grows along the forest floor before climbing tree trunks in search of brighter light.
The thick foliage displays an exceptional silver-green color with metallic highlights. Juvenile leaves are entire, while mature plants gradually produce large, deeply fenestrated leaves, especially when provided with a climbing support.
This species is a vigorous climbing plant with a fast growth rate under warm and humid conditions. A moss pole, sphagnum board or natural wood support greatly encourages larger mature foliage.
Amydrium medium 'Silver' thrives in bright indirect light, high humidity and a rich, airy, well-draining aroid substrate. It dislikes waterlogged soil but appreciates consistently slight moisture.
Its climbing habit makes it best suited for large terrariums, tropical greenhouses or indoor cultivation with vertical support.
Use a highly aerated mix composed of coconut fiber, fine pine bark, sphagnum moss, perlite, horticultural charcoal and a small amount of peat to promote healthy root development.
Keep the substrate slightly moist throughout the year while allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Soft or low-mineral water is recommended.
This species performs best with humidity levels between 70% and 90%.
Ideal growing temperature: 20°C to 30°C (68°F–86°F). Avoid prolonged exposure below 15°C (59°F).
Fast-growing. Mature plants can climb 2 to 4 meters, producing leaves up to 40–60 cm long under ideal conditions.
Supplied in a 6–9 cm pot. Plant size varies depending on the season and availability.
Remove damaged leaves regularly, provide good air circulation and use a vertical support to encourage mature foliage. Fertilize during the growing season for optimal growth.
This outstanding collector's aroid is admired for its unique metallic silver foliage, vigorous climbing growth and spectacular mature leaves. It is an excellent choice for rare plant enthusiasts looking to create a lush tropical display.
