Description

Hoya krohniana ‘Eskimo’ is a tropical climbing or trailing plant highly valued for its small, strongly silvered foliage. Its compact, fleshy leaves are heavily mottled with silver-grey tones, giving the plant a bright and refined appearance. Origin

Hoya krohniana is native to tropical Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines. The cultivar ‘Eskimo’ is especially prized for its strongly silvered foliage and highly decorative appearance.

Foliage

The leaves are small, thick, slightly succulent and generally heart-shaped to oval. Their surface is heavily covered with silver mottling and speckling, sometimes giving the leaves an almost completely grey appearance. The variegation differs from one leaf to another, making every plant visually unique.

Flowering

Hoya krohniana ‘Eskimo’ can produce small star-shaped flowers arranged in rounded umbels. The flowers are generally cream to white with a more contrasting center and may release a delicate fragrance typical of many Hoya species.

Growth

This variety has a climbing or trailing growth habit and develops long, flexible stems. It can be grown in a hanging basket to highlight its cascading form or trained onto a support for a more structured appearance.

Light

Place the plant in bright indirect light. Good light levels encourage compact growth, strong silver coloration and flowering. Avoid intense direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day.

Allow the substrate to dry partially between waterings. Its fleshy leaves allow the plant to tolerate short periods of dryness. Avoid overwatering and permanently wet conditions around the roots.

Thanks to its compact foliage and climbing or trailing habit, Hoya krohniana ‘Eskimo’ can be grown in a large tropical terrarium or well-ventilated paludarium. It is particularly useful for covering branches, upper sections and vertical decorative structures.

Maintenance

Lightly prune the stems when necessary to control growth. Avoid routinely removing old flower spurs, as Hoya can rebloom several times from the same peduncles.
