'Bambino Arrow' is a compact horticultural selection belonging to the Alocasia × amazonica group. It is most commonly sold as 'Bambino' or 'Bambino Arrow'.
The leaves are long, narrow and arrow-shaped, with a glossy dark green surface crossed by pronounced silver veins.
The contrast between the dark leaf blade and pale veins creates a highly graphic appearance, while the undersides generally display purple tones.
Alocasia 'Bambino' has a compact upright habit, producing new leaves progressively from the base.
At maturity, it remains significantly smaller than many other Alocasia and generally reaches around 30–40 cm tall under favourable conditions.
Use a highly aerated and free-draining aroid mix containing coco chips, fine bark, perlite, sphagnum moss and light organic material.
The substrate should retain light moisture without remaining permanently saturated.
Keep the growing medium lightly moist during active growth, allowing the surface to begin drying before watering again.
Avoid stagnant water around the roots and crown.
Humidity of approximately 60% to 85% is particularly suitable.
Humid air supports healthy leaf development, although good airflow remains beneficial.
Ideal growing temperature: approximately 20°C to 28°C.
Avoid prolonged temperatures below 15–16°C and cold draughts.
Alocasia 'Bambino' prefers bright filtered light.
Good lighting maintains compact growth and enhances the contrast between the silver veins and dark foliage. Avoid harsh direct sunlight.
Moderate growth. New leaves emerge successively from the base when warmth, light and humidity are adequate.
Like many Alocasia, 'Bambino' may slow considerably or lose some foliage during winter when light levels and temperatures decrease.
Reduce watering during this period until active growth resumes.
Mature plants may produce typical aroid inflorescences consisting of a spathe and spadix.
It is primarily grown for its highly contrasted foliage.
Propagation is mainly carried out by division or by separating offsets and small corms produced around the root system.
Remove only old or genuinely damaged leaves.
Take particular care to avoid overwatering and excessively dry conditions.
Use a balanced low-strength tropical plant or aroid fertiliser during active growth.
Reduce or stop feeding during any winter resting period.
'Bambino' concentrates the dramatic look of a large Alocasia into a much smaller silhouette. Its narrow dark leaves and bright silver veins create immediate contrast in tropical displays.
Its restrained mature size also makes it one of the most interesting Alocasia cultivars for spacious terrariums and compact plant collections.
Provide bright filtered light and a highly aerated substrate. In terrariums, avoid positioning the plant directly beneath a misting nozzle so that the foliage and crown can dry regularly between cycles.
Like other Araceae, Alocasia plants contain calcium oxalate crystals. The sap may be irritating and the plant should not be ingested.
