Nephrolepis exaltata is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas.
'Green Lady' is a horticultural selection grown for its dense habit, regular green fronds and lush appearance.
The fronds are long and lance-shaped, composed of numerous small green pinnae arranged regularly along the rachis.
The fresh green foliage quickly creates volume and a lush tropical appearance.
Nephrolepis exaltata 'Green Lady' forms a dense rhizomatous clump. Young fronds are generally upright before gradually arching as they lengthen.
Mature plants can become relatively broad and substantial, making them best suited to terrariums with enough room for the foliage to develop freely.
Use a light, humus-rich and free-draining substrate that retains consistent moisture without remaining permanently saturated.
A mix containing coco fibre, light organic material, perlite, fine bark and a small amount of sphagnum moss is particularly suitable.
Keep the substrate consistently lightly moist.
Avoid prolonged drying, which may quickly cause the tips of the fronds to brown or dry.
Standing water around the rhizome should also be avoided.
Humidity of approximately 60% to 85% is particularly suitable.
Humid air helps maintain lush, flexible green fronds, although regular airflow remains important in enclosed terrariums.
Ideal growing temperature: approximately 18°C to 26°C.
Avoid prolonged cold conditions and placing the plant close to dry heating sources.
Nephrolepis exaltata 'Green Lady' prefers soft to medium filtered light and can tolerate brighter conditions when fully diffused.
Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can quickly scorch the frond tips.
Moderate to fast growth under warm, humid conditions with consistent watering.
The plant can produce new fronds regularly and gradually form a very dense clump.
Like all ferns, Nephrolepis exaltata does not produce flowers.
It reproduces through spores and may also produce runners and young plantlets naturally.
Remove old, dry or damaged fronds directly at the base to encourage fresh growth.
Avoid keeping the foliage permanently wet without airflow, especially in heavily misted terrariums.
Use a very dilute tropical plant or fern fertiliser during active growth.
Light feeding is preferable to concentrated fertilisation.
'Green Lady' delivers everything expected from a true forest fern: lush, flexible and intensely green foliage that immediately adds volume to the display.
Supplied in a 9 cm pot, it can quickly create a substantial green mass at the base of roots, behind smaller plants or in the background of a large tropical terrarium.
Place it where the fronds have enough room to arch naturally, with a substrate kept consistently fresh but never waterlogged. It looks particularly effective behind Fittonia, Begonia and smaller ferns to create several distinct layers of vegetation.
