Philodendron brandtianum is a tropical climbing aroid prized for its distinctive olive to deep green foliage covered with broad silver markings. These metallic patterns give the leaves a luminous, highly graphic appearance that stands out beautifully in tropical displays.
Supplied in a Ø 12 cm pot, this plant already offers good volume and is ideal for training over natural roots, cork panels, moss poles or vertical backgrounds.

Philodendron brandtianum is native to southern Colombia, northern Brazil and Bolivia.
In nature, it grows as a tropical climber using surrounding vegetation for support.
The leaves are generally cordate to oval, with a more or less heart-shaped base. Olive to dark green foliage is extensively marked with silver to metallic grey areas.
On well-grown specimens, the silver markings may cover a large proportion of the leaf blade, creating striking contrast with the green sections and veins.
Philodendron brandtianum has a naturally climbing habit. Its stems develop aerial roots that gradually attach to roots, trunks and vertical supports.
It may also be grown as a trailing plant, although climbing cultivation generally encourages more natural and mature foliage.
Grow the plant against a natural root, cork panel, moss pole, Hygrolon or planted vertical background.
A slightly humid surface encourages aerial root attachment and allows the plant to climb naturally.
Use a highly aerated and free-draining aroid mix containing coco chips, bark, perlite, sphagnum moss and light organic material.
The substrate should retain light moisture while remaining well aerated around the roots.
Water when the upper layer of substrate begins to dry slightly.
Avoid permanently saturated growing media and stagnant water around the root system.
Humidity of approximately 60% to 85% is particularly suitable.
Consistent humidity encourages aerial root and foliage development but should always be combined with good airflow.
Ideal growing temperature: approximately 20°C to 28°C.
Avoid prolonged cold conditions and cool draughts.
Philodendron brandtianum prefers medium to bright filtered light.
Good lighting helps maintain compact growth and enhances the metallic silver foliage. Avoid harsh direct sunlight.
Moderate to fast growth under warm, humid conditions with an appropriate climbing support.
Stems can easily be trained or pruned to control their development.
Mature Philodendron brandtianum may produce typical aroid inflorescences consisting of a spathe surrounding a spadix.
In cultivation, however, its primary ornamental feature remains the silver-marked foliage.
Propagation is mainly carried out from stem cuttings containing at least one node and ideally an aerial root.
Train new growth onto its support and prune overly long stems when necessary to maintain dense growth.
Remove old or damaged foliage and gently clean the leaves to preserve their silver sheen.
Use a low-strength tropical plant or aroid fertiliser during active growth.
Avoid excessive feeding, particularly in terrariums and small substrate volumes.
Philodendron brandtianum combines the versatility of a tropical climber with foliage far more distinctive than a conventional green Philodendron.
Its broad silver markings catch the light beautifully and immediately add depth to the display. Trained on a vertical root, it gradually creates a dense, elegant and luminous layer of foliage.
Provide a vertical support from the beginning. A natural root or slightly humid cork panel will encourage aerial root attachment and help the plant gradually develop larger, more mature foliage.
Like many Araceae, Philodendron brandtianum contains calcium oxalate crystals. The sap may be irritating and the plant should not be ingested.
